Gimme Gimme vs Giving Giving: 5 ways to teach your kids about giving back

We wanted to share 5 ways to encourage your kids to give not only during the holiday season, but all year around

Serve Others

Teach children about giving to families, friends, elderly, neighbors, even pets! This can be by spending a few hours volunteering or by making monetary donations.

Give toys and clothes to other children

Just because they grew out of those pants or they are too old to play with that toy anymore does not mean some other kiddo could not use them. Collect a bag full of items and bring them to a local shelter or organization to be used by a family in need.

Make Charitable Birthdays

How many times have you said, “They have SO many toys and play with none of them!” When you send the invitation for your child’s birthday, let them know you will be donating to a charity in lieu of gifts or to bring an unwrapped toy that will be donated to a child in need.

Deliver Nutrition

The statistics regarding hunger and access to nutrition are staggering in this country. Teach your children about where food comes from, cook with them, deliver food to organizations or volunteer your time at these organizations that can provide meals for children, families, and seniors is an amazing experience.

Donation Jar

There are many ways to teach your children about earning money. They can do chores around the house,  have a bake sale or lemonade stand,  or do jobs for neighbors to name just a few. They can save this money in a donation jar. Once the jar is filled, decide with your child how they would like to share their earnings. What a wonderful feeling!
